Updates, History and backups

Gallery updates never overwrite your changes, every change is kept in History, and a copy can live in your own Google Drive.

Updates to Gallery apps

PriorStates improves the Gallery apps often. What happens depends on whether you changed your copy:

  • You never changed it: it updates by itself, about once a day, and keeps your data.
  • You changed it: nothing is forced. A dot appears on its tile and Update available in its menu, with three choices:
    • Bring the update into my version. The AI applies the Gallery's changes to your version and keeps yours. You see the result before keeping it, and History can undo it.
    • Replace with the Gallery version. Your version is kept in History first; your data stays.
    • Keep mine. Skip this version. You are asked again at the next one.

A red dot means the update includes a safety fix. The update dialog says what it fixes; take it soon.

An app's menu also says what it is based on, for example "Based on Subscriptions 4 (PriorStates) · customized".

History and restore

Every time Studio changes an app for you, it first keeps the app as it was. Open the app's menu → History to see the versions, newest first, each labelled with what you asked. Up to 20 are kept.

  • Restore puts the app back as it was then. What is there now is kept in History first, so a restore can be undone too.
  • History keeps the app, not your data: restoring never removes the orders, notes or records you entered.

Recently deleted

A deleted app stays in Recently deleted for 30 days with its data and History. Restore it from there in that time; after 30 days it is deleted for good.

Backups

Your apps and their data live on your device, not on our servers. Keep a copy somewhere else, in one of two ways.

A copy in your own Google Drive

In Settings, turn on Keep a copy in my Google Drive and sign in to Google. It is off until you turn it on.

  • Studio keeps the copy in a hidden folder of your Drive that only Studio can see. PriorStates never receives it.
  • On a new phone, or on your computer, turn it on with the same Google account and tap Add apps from your Drive.
  • If Google's sign-in expires, saving pauses quietly and Settings shows Sign in to continue.
  • To stop, remove the copy from your Drive in Settings. Your apps on the device stay as they are.

A backup file

Settings → Back up everything writes one file with your apps, their data, and the private keys that let your shared links and forms keep working. Restore… on another copy of Studio picks it all up. Keep the file somewhere only you can read: anyone with it can read your apps' data.

Your own AI key and the pairing with your computer are not in the file. Set them again on the new device.
