Make or change apps by asking

Say what you want in plain words. Studio changes the app, keeps the version before, and refuses what would be unsafe.

How it works

To change an app, hold its tile and tap Edit with AI. To make a new one, tap + New app on your apps screen, or open the ✎ Build tab. Say what you want in plain words, the way you would tell a person. A minute or so later the change is there. Not quite right? Say so, and it changes again.

Making and changing apps uses AI: the free starter AI on the phone, limited per day, or your own subscription or key. See Do you need AI?

How to ask well

  • Say what it is for. "A rota for six staff over two weeks, so nobody closes twice in a row" works better than a list of fields.
  • One change at a time. Small requests land accurately; a paragraph of them does not.
  • Name what you see. "Put the total at the top of the Orders tab", "make the Add button bigger".
  • Give the real numbers and words. "Delivery is $2.50, free over $30", "call the tabs Today and Later".

Requests that work well on the business apps, as tested:

  • "Add a tip line to the checkout" (Shop)
  • "Customers must book at least 24 hours ahead" (Bookings)
  • "Add a field for allergies" (Phone Orders)
  • "Invoices are due in 14 days, and add a thank-you line" (Quotes & Invoices)
  • "Ask if they need a high chair" (Waitlist)
  • "Show prices without cents" (Menu Board)

Each Gallery app's page has more ideas under Make it yours: see all apps.

Settings first, new features second

Many things you might ask for are already a setting: a delivery fee, a minimum notice, overtime hours, a currency, your hours. Look in the app's setup or settings first. When you ask for a change that is a setting, Studio changes the setting and tells you where it is, so you can change it again yourself later without AI.

Ask for a new feature when there is no setting for it: a new field, a new tab, a new rule, a different layout.

Check it, and undo if needed

  • After a change, try it once with real numbers, especially when it touches money: a total, a tax, a discount.
  • Didn't like it? Open the app's menu → History and restore the version before. See History and restore.
  • Changing a Gallery app makes it your version. Gallery updates are then offered, never forced: updates.

What the builder won't do

Studio refuses requests that would put you or your customers at risk, and suggests a safe way instead. For example:

  • Taking card numbers. Apps never collect card details. Customers pay through the methods in your Business Profile: a payment link, PayPal, Venmo, Cash App, Zelle or cash.
  • Sending texts automatically. Texts and reminders to customers open on your own phone, one at a time, for you to send. See reminders to customers.
  • Showing private details in public. A TV screen shows first names or initials, never phone numbers.
